What is the purpose of a Temazcal?

The Temazcal is a comprehensive health practice and community strengthening that we inherit from our ancestors; which brings together people of all ages and backgrounds to explore their interior through the steam bath that is performed inside a closed space, in the dark, and guided by a grandfather or grandmother who knows the tradition.

  • People who participate in a Temazcal talk afterwards about the benefits they feel after the ritual, which include: Cleansing and purification: the heat and steam cause your body to sweat profusely, helping to dispel toxins and cleanse your skin's pores.

  • These ancient rituals have been part of Mexican and South American culture for around 1,000 years. The word itself originates from a Nahuatl word Temāzcalli, which translates to “house of heat.”

Thought to have derived from the Pre-Hispanic indigenous people of Mesoamerica, the cleansing ritual took place before and after battles and sports tournaments. It was also thought to have healing powers and was a place to give birth.

The Temazcal is a unique experience that can help you connect with your body, mind, and spirit. It is an opportunity to release stress, tension, and negative emotions, and to recharge your batteries.

If you are looking for a healing and transformative experience, the Temazcal is a perfect option for you.
